This newly released compilation features precious recordings from the prime of Lee Perry's career at the legendary Black Ark Studio, making it an essential album for reggae fans. The title track, "PLAY ON MR. MUSIC," is the legendary track that stunned reggae fans around the world in the recording scene of the documentary film Roots Rock Reggae, showcasing Perry's breathtaking skills as he masterfully manipulated the Mu-Tron in the mixing room. The track features top reggae musicians of the time, including The Congos, The Heptones, and Junior Marvin, whose performances further elevate the piece.

Additionally, Sam Carty's "MILTE HI ANKHEN" is a full vocal cut of the oriental dub track "BIRD IN HAND" from the acclaimed album Return of Super Ape, which became a topic of discussion when it was released on a 10-inch vinyl from Rock A Shacka. This marks its first inclusion on an album, drawing significant attention.

The album also includes a previously unreleased dub plate mix of The Silvertones' deep, mystical Rasta tune, "REJOICE JAH JAH CHILDREN," an alternate take of Carlton Jackson's signature song "HISTORY," and an irie roots rock cover of Curtis Mayfield's masterpiece "PEOPLE GET READY" by Junior Marvin. Perry's soulful singing shines on tracks like "SOUL FIRE," offering a compilation filled with the sounds of the Black Ark Studio during the peak of Perry's genius.
