"Twistin' The Night Away" was only Cooke's second album ever to chart, marking the true start of his commercial breakthrough. From here on, every one of his records would sell in serious numbers. Despite its "twist" concept, this LP finds Cooke at his most soulful and passionate, with standout cuts like the bluesy "Somebody Have Mercy," the aching "A Whole Lotta Woman," and "Soothe Me" featuring Lou Rawls. One of the great dance albums of its period and a brilliant soul record in its own right. A must-have for 60s soul collectors and colored vinyl enthusiasts.
