Description
Sweet Inspiration – Guilty Reggae Pleasures celebrates the irresistible pop-reggae sound of the early 1970s, when Trojan Records paired Jamaican rhythms with sophisticated orchestration and British pop-production polish.
Facing reluctance from Britain’s mainstream media, Trojan sought a wider audience by adding orchestral arrangements to Jamaican recordings. The approach proved popular and expanded to sessions featuring UK-based reggae acts, creating a distinctive meeting point between reggae, melody and ambitious studio production.
This Trojan Records LP explores that crossover spirit: music with broad appeal that remains firmly connected to reggae’s rhythmic foundations. For collectors drawn to the melodic side of the Trojan catalogue, it offers a different perspective from roots-heavy selections.
Released in October 2026, Sweet Inspiration is a natural addition for early-reggae enthusiasts and pop-minded listeners alike. No guilty conscience required: sometimes an irresistible tune is reason enough to drop the needle.
