In 1967, a 19-year-old Londoner named David Bowie released his first album on Deram a whimsical, theatrical, Music Hall and Folk-inflected debut that sounded like nothing else of its era and pointed toward a singular artistic vision that would change rock history. The NME called it "all very refreshing" and Bowie "a very promising talent." Melody Maker praised it as "a singularly rewarding collection." Disc & Music Echo declared it "a remarkable, creative debut album" from "a new talent that deserves attention." They were right just a few years early.
