Soulful tunes from 1968 out of Jamaica
JAPAN import.
One of the most creative, important and successful, figures in the development of Jamaican music Winston Riley was involved in the Kingston recording business from its beginnings and, fifty years later, his music continues to exert a serious influence. Born in Kingston in 1946 he grew up in West Kingston and became a male nurse after leaving school. In those days music was not regarded as a viable career option and Winston recalled that if he wanted to make it then he would have to "work and sing, work and sing". He cited his musical influences as The Rhythm Aces, Jimmy James and The Impressions and two of The Techniques' biggest ever hits were adaptations of Curtis Mayfield's Impressions songs.
