Description
75th anniversary of three top 10 R&B singles - 'Hobo Blues', 'Hoogie Boogie' and 'Crawlin' King Snake'. This 4-track EP includes the bonus track 'Hastings Street Boogie', which also celebrates its 75th anniversary.
In 1952, long before the mods in their smart suits were drawn to John Lee Hooker's equally well-tailored looks and rousing music, the British Vogue label had released 'Hoogie Boogie', recorded in 1949, on a 78 rpm record. Blues music was for aficionados then, and the four tracks on this EP recall those earliest John Lee Hooker recordings. Three tracks from this EP hit the top 10 of the US R&B charts in 1949. Pure John Lee Hooker, getting to the core of his blues and boogie, just guitar, vocals and foot tapping.
This EP comes in a beautiful contemporary sleeve drawn and designed by Niall McCormack.
