Description
Originally released in 2016 "The Bristol Roots Explosion" was a complementary release to our very successful Bristol Reggae Explosion series. With the expiration of licencing agreements, we were unable to repress the first two volumes, so we selected some of the best roots tracks, added a couple of fresh tracks and created an exclusive vinyl compilation that highlighted just how strong the local scene was. Now several years since it was deleted and with used copies fetching ever increasing prices, we decided to do a limited five hundred run repress for Record Store Day 2024 and to distinguish it from the earlier release we've chosen blue vinyl. Seven years later this is still my favourite of our sleeve designs, the vintage cover shot we chose was provided by the ever-helpful Popsy Curious and shows him on his bike outside what were the remains of Bristol's famous Bamboo Club. Popsy was a great supporter of our projects who is still missed, and this cover is a fitting tribute. "The Bristol Roots Explosion" is exactly what the title says, a record that documents the West Country take on roots reggae from the second half of the 1970s until the end of the 1980s.
