Het Kingston Kwartet unites four seasoned musicians from the dutch Ska and Reggae Scene, on a Mission to bring reggae's smooth, soulful, and jazzy side into the Spotlight - a Sound too often left in the shadows.
With just drums, bass, guitar, and electric piano - and plenty of musical miles on the clock - they craft their own distinctive take on classic tunes: funky, jazzy, and captured live in their hidden seaside studio, somewhere deep in the windswept dunes of the Dutch coast.
Over the past few years, the band has played all across the Netherlands, all while working on new "quartets" - Groups of four Songs connected by a common theme - some of which have found theitr way into this album.
The first quartet, BOND, tips is hat to the iconic Soundtracks of 007 - with plenty of secret Jamaican Connections shaken (not stirred) into the mix. The second quartet, VIRUS, is a loving nod to the legendary Dutch band Doe Maar - "world-famous" in the Netherlands for their irresistible blend of Dutch lyrics and Reggae-flavoured Pop that took the early '80s by storm.
