I know people use terms like Boppin’ Hillbilly, Country Bop, Hillbilly etc but for me we have four pretty obscure Rockabilly records.

The first track was issued on Fine Records in Missippi in 1955 and that’s about it info wise. But how many Simon records are there out the? Not many I should stay. Anyway this is a fine country shuffle as you may guess from the title.

The Maddox Brothers and Rose are the best known artists on here so I will skip any bio stuff. This track is the earliest on the EP having been issued in 1951 by Four Star records in California. It really rocks along for such an early recording and captures the party on a record the Maddox’s were known for.

Bob Varney went the custom pressing route and has his Stoney Mountain Boogie pressed by Starday Records on the Bluegrass label. Brilliant hill folk music. (Hey have I just invented another phrase for people who seem to not want to call rockabilly rockabilly?)

The best known track on the EP Hank’s DJ Blues is one of four 45s he had issued all on the Caprock label with this one coming out in 1958. It is fine laid back rockabilly almost narration to round out this EP.

-JIM OWEN - Sie Simon Shuffle

-BOB VARNEY - Stoney Mountain Boogie
-HANK HARRAL - The D.J. Blues
