Compiled by Trojan’s own Caeshia St.Paul, the release pays respect to the leading female figures whose talent and determination both inspired and paved the way for subsequent generations of performers to make their mark in the music industry. Among those whose recordings are showcased are such influential artists as Millie Small, Althea & Donna, Marcia Griffiths, Phyllis Dillion and Susan Cadogan, while the significant contribution of Jamaica’s greatest female producer, Sonia Pottinger is also duly recognised.
Rhoda Dakar, who penned the fascinating sleeve notes, played a pivotal role in bringing the concept to life and when speaking of the compilation stated, “I have been privileged to see some of these great artists live and thank them for the music”. Those sentiments are most definitely shared by all at Trojan!
