"The Godfather of Ska" and "High Priest of Reggae" are just two names that show how Laurel Aitken was viewed by his fans and critics. He was Jamaica's first music star and established ska and reggae in the musical mainstream - a true pioneer of this style of music in the 50s and early 60s. He later took up his role in England and the rest of Europe to promote Ska and Reggae. When ska experienced a revival during the post-punk era, it was not without good reason that he was hailed as the father of the ska movement.
