Description

Vibes player Johnny Lytle was one of the heroes of the early acid jazz club scene, his pieces "Selim" and "The Man" were anthems of the scene. Two albums were later released on the Detroit label Tuba. The first of these, 'The Loop', was created with the help of his regular trio partners, organist Milt Harris and drummer "Peppy" Hinnant. This line-up was supplemented on some tracks by former Miles Davis pianist Wynton Kelly and bassist George Duvivier. A 7-inch single of the title song actually spent five weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. In addition to the acid jazz piece 'The Man', the album contains a stunning version of Duke Pearson's 'Cristo Redentor', as well as the dancefloor-friendly 'Possum Grease' and 'Hot Sauce'. 'The Loop' has now been reissued for the first time since its initial release.

Classic, black vinyl!
