Second album by the HAMBURG SPINNERS, a contemporary mod jazz quartet from Hamburg.
The quartet consists of CARSTEN "Erobique" MEYER (he did the soundtrack to "Der Tatortreiniger") on the Hammond B-3 organ, DENNIS RUX (RHONDA, TRASHMONKEYS) on guitar, DAVID NESSELHAUFF (DIAZPORA) on bass and LUCAS KOCHBECK on drums.
"The Magic Kraken" was recorded live over two weekends in April 2021 in the Hamburg Yeah!-Yeah!-Yeah! Studios. The chemistry in the band was right again after a (Covid) break of almost a year and so the ideas that the musicians had collected in the meantime were concretized in a truly democratic process, arranged and implemented on the spot. The will to play collectively - without at the same time deviating too far from the original rudimentary and reduced arrangements - was always in the air. Although the sound of a Hammond organ quartet has certain limits, creativity was given space to overcome these limits - in short: the music could & can spread like the arms of an octopus. Reminiscences of songs by Timmy Thomas or Phoenix broken down to the essentials don't come to mind when listening to the new Hamburg Spinners album. Last but not least - never change a winning team: Carsten "Erobique" Meyer's soulful Hammond B3 organ is carried by Dennis Rux' warm and gripping guitar sound, David Nesselhauf's dynamic bass lines and Lucas Kochbeck's precise and tight drumming.
