Description

Jamaican-style bluebeat and rhythm'n'blues, mixing in some ska along with with a dash of soul and jazz.
Their influences including the Skatalites, Prince Buster, Laurel Aitken, Derrick Morgan, Fats Domino, Huey Piano Smith, Rosco Gordon, James Brown and Ike Turner. Championed by many of those in the know, including Dave Edwards (Trojan box set compiler), Gaz Mayal and Steve Lamaqq, DJ Smiler (Rude News) describes them as "the best, most authentic ska ever played by white men" and have been referred to as "Oxford's Skatalites".
If you liked the Two Tone ska revival of 30-odd years you'll adore the Nine Ton Peanut Smugglers. But these are guys who have been around the block a couple of times and absolutely know their music - and what they are doing here is music that will also satisfy the hardcore enthusiasts of Jamaican music, those who listened to it in the '60s and know the difference between authenticity and pastiche.
Featuring the guitar playing, vocal and songwriting talents of the ubiquitous Sir Bald Diddley, the shufflin' drums of Bash Brand (Milkshakes / Headcoats / Link Wray / Holly Golightly), the trumpet of AJ (Intensified / Laurel Aitken / Dave Barker / Dennis Al Capone and Winston Francis) along with the double bass of "Late" Ron McRobbie (previously of Sam Brown's band) , Kid Wig on piano (of Supergrass basissist Mick Quinn's band), the tenor sax of Johnny Loafer (the number one soul sax blower) and Napolean Trombonaparte on trombone (not suprisingly!), you're guaranteed an toetapping, uplifting and, above all, entertaining experience.
