A three piece from South East London, The Get-Go exploded onto the blues scene back in 2011. Founded by pals Stuart Farnham (vocals, guitar) and Brian Hall (bass), and with line-up completed by drummer Richard Metcalfe, they make exhilarating blues rock, the kind that would have got the audience in a lather down the Marquee and Crawdaddy back in the '60s. Their debut, Typically English, includes originals with titles such as Down the Line and Ain't no Fool that reveal strong songwriting skills, and influences drawn from the British Blues Scene; guitars hint at Peter Green and Bluesbreakers-era Eric Clapton; drums at Simon Kirke and Bonham; there's some Yardbirds and Chicken Shack in the mix too. A cover of the Lovin' Spoonful's Summer In The City, meanwhile, reveals them fine interpreters, but their real strength lies in their diminutive singer Stuart Farnham. His expressive vocal delivery marks him out as a great soul-blues vocalist, think Steve Marriott and Paul Rodgers, yes he is this good. Typically English, recorded live in a matter of days at Kent's Roundel Studios should, if there is justice, put The Get-Go firmly on the map.
