Description

16 tracks recorded in New York between 1933 - 35 by the blues singer LUCILLE BOGAN under the pseudonym BESSIE JACKSON with the ingenious accompanying pianist WALTER ROLAND. Together with BESSIE SMITH and MA RAINEY LUCILLE BOGAN was one of the first ranks of blues singers, although she saw herself as a female counterpart to the male blues singer, disdained the obligatory jazz orchestra and with a very progressive appearance for the time (occasionally obscene) blasphemy tongue broached uncomfortable topics. During the protest rallies in the 1960s, numerous songs by the early emancipated artist received new honors.
