The origins of the ska genre go back to the late 1950s in Jamaica. With post-war Jamaican immigration, the ska subculture eventually reached Europe and especially London. So long before skinheads in Britain embraced Jamaican reggae, their predecessors, the mods, were celebrating ska music.
This compilation from Trojan Records presents 56 of the scene's most popular ska classics on two CDs along with a 16-page booklet and a fascinating essay on the subculture and genre by Mike Atherton (Record Collector, Echoes).
